DAE stop keeping every single receipt? A librarian in Tacoma changed my mind on saving paper
I used to keep every receipt, every flyer, every pamphlet from every event I went to, thinking I might need it later for some project or just to remember the day. My desk drawer was overflowing with this stuff, and honestly, I never looked at any of it again. Last month I was at the Tacoma Public Library for a genealogy workshop, and the librarian there, a woman named Jan, saw me shoving a receipt into my already bulging bag. She asked me why I kept it, and I said for the memory, but she pointed out that I could just take a photo of it on my phone and save it in a folder. She also said that if I ever needed to find something specific, like a receipt for a return or a flyer for a show, I could search my photos by date or location, which is way faster than digging through a pile of paper. I tried it for a week, and she was totally right. I cleared out my drawer, and now I have a folder called 'keep' on my phone with about 30 photos. It's so much easier to find things, and I don't have paper clutter everywhere. Has anyone else made a switch like this after someone pointed out a simpler way?
