One week in July ruined my favorite dig site forever

I spent 6 years volunteering at the Cooper's Ferry site in Idaho, and in that single week the river shifted course and buried half of our exposed strata under 4 feet of gravel. We lost three test pits that had been open since 2019, including one with a possible Clovis point fragment we never got to fully map. Has anyone else had a site destroyed by a natural event, and did your team ever manage to recover anything after the fact?
