Spotted a row of maples I trimmed three seasons ago on my drive home yesterday
The difference between the choked up mess they were back then and the open, balanced crowns now made me realize how much proper reduction cuts actually matter over time, has anyone else seen a tree completely turn around after a few years of follow-up pruning?

Got a buddy who had this gnarly old apple tree in his backyard. Looked half dead when he bought the place, branches all crossed and rubbing. He hacked away at it for two seasons, just taking out the dead stuff and opening up the middle. Third year rolled around and that thing EXPLODED with fruit. I mean branches bending to the ground, apples the size of softballs. He said it was like the tree finally had room to breathe after years of being choked.

Had a buddy who neglected a maple for years and after one good thinning it finally stopped looking like a tangled mess.
