Messed up a big oak removal in Denver because I skipped the rigging plan
Figured I could wing it and just drop branches one by one, but after 3 hours of wrestling with a hung limb and bending my lowering rope, I finally got it down and now I always sketch out the rigging before I even fire up the saw has anyone else had a simple job blow up on them like that?

Oh man, that sounds like a classic lesson learned the hard way. I read a piece in a trade mag about a guy who wrecked his whole truck bed skipping the rigging, said the recoil from a branch snapped his chain and the truck took the hit instead of the tree. Sketching it out first just saves you that extra headache. My buddy swears by marking the rope angles on a napkin before he even starts.
