That July heat wave was a nightmare for fridge repairs

Three weeks ago during that 95 degree stretch I had four compressors overheat in one day. Three were in garages, one was on a south-facing porch with zero shade. The worst part was a Whirlpool unit that just wouldn't cycle off no matter what I did. Ended up replacing the start relay and capacitor on site. Has anyone else seen a spike in failures during extreme heat like that?

Yeah I had that exact problem with a Whirlpool last month, same heat wave. The start relay swelled up and the capacitor looked like it was about to pop. I carry spare start relays in my truck now for exactly these calls. Hey @foster.dylan, those garage units weren't rated for direct sun but they were installed in shaded spots with decent airflow still. The issue was more that the ambient temp was just too high for them to shed heat fast enough.

Wait were those garage units even rated for direct sun exposure?
