Spent 4 hours chasing a no-cool on a fridge in Mesa, and it was a $9 part I skipped
Had a customer in Mesa call about a fridge that wasn't cooling, so I checked the compressor, the fans, the coils, all the usual stuff, and nothing looked wrong. Turned out the run capacitor was weak and I only found it after my meter fell off the condenser and I had to test everything a second time from scratch. Does anyone else test caps first now, or am I the only one still learning this the hard way at 52?
My meter slipped off a condenser last summer too, right into a puddle, and I stood there like a genius watching it float. The worst part is the weak cap always hides behind the one test we skip when we're sure it's something bigger. I started hitting caps first after a call in Gilbert where I swapped a $200 board and the fridge still wouldn't cool, and the cap was the whole problem. Now it's the first thing I grab, takes ten seconds and saves me the four hour headache. Being 52 just means I've had more chances to learn stuff the dumb way, not that I actually do.
