Old timer at the supply house told me to stop using R-22 recovery machines for 410a...

I figured a machine's a machine, right? Blew out the compressor on a 3-ton Lennox last July and had to buy a new one for $400 out of pocket. He was dead on, the pressures are just too different.

You ever put diesel in a gas car because the nozzle fit? I did that once and learned real fast that "close enough" is a expensive lesson. Same deal with these refrigerants, they look alike but the internals can't handle it.

Yeah I've seen a guy do the same thing with his lawn mower. Used kerosene instead of gas because "it's all the same stuff in a can." Spoiler alert: it is not the same stuff. Took him three days of pulling that cord to figure out he was fighting an uphill battle against his own wallet. Bet that AC guy is getting a similar education in expensive chemistry right about now.
