Found out from an old timer that most washing machines from the 90s had motors that lasted 20 years easy, now I'm lucky if a new one makes it past 7.

I saw a chart from a repair shop in Phoenix showing failure rates by brand and it blew my mind how much shorter the lifespan is now, does anyone else think they're building these things to break on purpose?

Honestly my top loader sounds like it's auditioning for a metal band every time it spins, Ngl I basically just pray it lasts through my laundry pile.

Had a neighbor whose washer started smoking mid-cycle, sounded just like that.

Wait, did they figure out what caused it? I had a dryer once that made this weird thumping noise for like two months before the belt just snapped clean off. Scared the crap out of me. Was it a loose drum or something electrical like a bad capacitor? Always curious about what actually goes wrong with these things because my machines seem to develop new quirks every few months.
