Am I the only one who stops diagnosing once I see the amp draw?
Had a dryer last Thursday in Rochester that kept tripping the breaker, and I almost replaced the motor until I checked the outlet voltage and found it was reading 108 instead of 240. Two minutes with a meter beat two hours of guessing, and the guy had a bad breaker the whole time. Anyone else catch themselves skipping the basics because the amp clamp made the answer look obvious?
Used to be the amp clamp was the first thing out of my bag every single time, and it burned me more than once. Learned the hard way that a reading only tells you what the circuit is doing, not why, so now I check voltage and the simple stuff first. Your Rochester call is a good reminder that the fast answer and the right answer are not always the same thing.
