A 30 year tech told me he misses when boards actually had schematics
Was bullshitting with a guy named Ray at a parts counter in Toledo last week, he has been fixing appliances since the 80s. I mentioned how nice it is to just pull up a wiring diagram on my phone, and he kind of laughed and said that is exactly what killed the job for him. Back then you had to actually trace a circuit and think, now half the calls are just swapping a board and hoping. I still keep a binder of old Whirlpool schematics in the truck, and honestly I reach for it more than I should. Any of you older guys feel like the trade shifted from diagnosing to just parts swapping?
