The landlord in Phoenix tried to keep my $900 deposit over a nail hole, so now I film everything
My last apartment was in Phoenix and when I moved out the landlord said they had to repaint the whole place because of one small nail hole and kept my full $900 deposit. I was so mad I printed out the move-in checklist where they marked the walls as "good condition" and took photos of everything. But it was my word against theirs and I never got the money back. Now before I move into any new place I spend 45 minutes filming every room on my phone with a time stamp and narrating what I see. I open every cabinet, run every faucet, and make sure the landlord watches me do it so they know I have proof. The last place I rented in Tempe tried to charge me $200 for a stain that was already in the carpet and I pulled up the video. Do you guys do video walkthroughs, or is there a better way to protect yourself without looking like a total pain?
