I used to think 'slice of life' anime was boring, but a friend's recommendation changed my mind
Three years ago, a buddy in my college dorm insisted I watch 'A Place Further Than the Universe'. I finally gave it a shot last week, and the scene where the girls first see Antarctica actually made me cry. Anyone have other shows that hit you with a feeling you weren't expecting?

Crying over cartoon penguins seems a bit much. It's a nice show, sure, but it's still just drawings of high school girls on a boat. That Violet Evergarden one gets recommended a lot too, but it's mostly about a robot lady typing. The emotional payoff feels kind of forced, like the show is trying really hard to make you feel a specific way.

Whoa, hot take. I mean, I get where you're coming from with Violet Evergarden, the setup sounds weird on paper. But for me, the emotional beats landed because the whole journey is about her learning to feel, not the show just telling you to cry.
