I tried watching anime with subtitles for 6 months straight, then switched back to dubs for one show and could not finish it
So here is the thing. About 6 months back I made a rule for myself, subs only, no exceptions. I had this idea that dubs were always worse and I was being lazy. Watched like 14 shows that way, the whole thing. Then a friend kept pushing me to give a dub a shot on a rewatch of a show I already knew, so I did. And honestly it was rough. Not because the voices were bad, they were fine. It was because I had gotten used to reading and picking up little word choices and honorifics that just do not carry over. Two episodes in I felt like I was missing half of what made the characters sound like themselves. I ended up going back to subs before the arc even wrapped. I still think both are valid for different people, but for me the sub version won by a mile and I did not expect that going in. Curious if anyone else made the switch and felt the opposite, or if it depends on the show.
