Found an old reel to reel at a garage sale in Ohio, now I rewire everything first
Picked up a 1960s Akai for $40 outside Cleveland. Motor hummed but nothing else did. Before I even tested it I opened the back and found two cracked solder joints plus a dried out cap. Fixed those first and it powered up fine. Now I never touch any vintage gear without checking the power supply section first. Saves me from chasing ghosts. Anyone else do basic electrical checks before anything else on a new find?
