Watched The Mist with my brother in his garage in Reno and we still argue about that ending
So my brother lives in Reno and we were watching The Mist in his garage last month, and when it got to the ending where Thomas Jane shoots everyone in the car, he just lost it. He paused it and said the whole movie was ruined because the army shows up like 30 seconds later, which honestly I get. But I said the ending works because the whole point is he gave up right before things got better, and if he'd just waited a little longer none of it would've happened. Anyway we've been going back and forth for weeks now, so I wanna hear what you guys would've changed. What would you do with that last scene, keep it as is or give the guy a break?
Man, that ending hits different when you're sitting in a cold garage in Reno at 2am, huh? Here's my question though: if you gave the guy a break and let the army roll up before he pulls the trigger, does the movie even mean anything anymore? Like, the whole reason people still talk about this movie 15 years later is because it makes you feel sick to your stomach. Take that away and it's just another monster movie where the good guys make it. So my real question is, would you rather have a movie that sticks with you and ruins your night, or a movie you forget about by the time you hit the driveway? Because I don't think you get both.
