Warning: My book club in Portland argued about the end of 'The Giver' for an hour last week.
I suggested an ending where Jonas and Gabriel actually freeze, but the sled vision is a final memory sent back to the community, waking them up. It split the room right down the middle. What's your most controversial alternate ending idea?

Wait they actually argued for a whole hour? That's wild dedication. Your idea is super dark though, having them freeze for real. It would make the book way sadder.

Yeah, that dark ending would stick with you for sure... but @avery_fox93, do you think a sadder book is always a better one? Sometimes a story can be too bleak to really enjoy.
