Used to write happy endings for everything, now I kill off characters in the first chapter and it's way better
Back in college around 2015 I wrote this 40 page story where everyone survived the shipwreck and it was the most boring thing I ever read out loud. Now I just decide who dies by page 20 and the rest of the story writes itself faster than I can type it. My writing group in Tulsa told me the last one felt like a real gut punch instead of a bedtime story. Anyone else flip their whole approach to endings like this, or am I just becoming a monster?

My old stuff read like a greeting card that wouldn't end, so yeah, killing someone off early saved my whole hobby. Nothing says personal growth like becoming the guy who writes with a hit list.
