Unpopular opinion: The Notebook should've ended with her choosing James Marsden's character
I was watching The Notebook on my couch in Denver last weekend with my sister, and when Allie picks Noah at the end I just lost it. I told her the movie would be way better if she stayed with Lon, the guy who was actually stable and didn't make her choose between her family and him. My sister said I missed the point but I still think the real love story was Allie learning to stand on her own instead of running back to the guy who threatened to kill himself if she left. Am I the only one who thinks the ending would be stronger if she ended up alone and happy?

Used to roll my eyes at takes like this but honestly you make a good point. Him threatening to kill himself if she left is such a red flag and everyone just glosses over it. Her ending up alone and figuring herself out would've been a way better message.
