The doctor should have quit to find personal happiness.

My cousin left his ER job after ten years, bought a food truck in Austin. He said the constant stress was killing him slowly. Now he makes killer tacos and actually sleeps at night. The movie ending where the doctor saves the day but is miserable is a fantasy. Real happiness often means walking away from the badge and scrubs.

Watched a buddy of mine burn out hard from nursing. He was in the ICU for years, saw things that really messed with his head. One day he just quit, bought a small plot of land upstate. Now he grows vegetables and fixes up old tractors. He says his hands are dirty but his mind is finally clean. Sometimes the best way to save yourself is to leave the job that's breaking you.
