Had a zone go open loop on me at 2am in a house off Riverside, turned out to be a mouse chewing the contact wire
Got a call at 2am from a customer in the Riverside area saying her panel kept beeping and showing zone 4 open. Drove out there expecting a bad contact or a loose wire, but the whole thing was fine when I tested it. Then I pulled the contact off the back door frame and found a mouse had chewed through the wire about 6 inches back from the contact. Stripped it, spliced in a new section, sealed the hole with some steel wool and caulk, and it has been solid for 3 weeks now. I keep telling people that exterior wire runs are basically a buffet for rodents around here. Anyone else seeing more chewed wires this season, or is it just my area?
