Heard about a mechanic who let a small thing slide, next thing you know it caused a delay that grounded the plane. Sometimes luck runs out fast.

At a Midwest airport, I recall a mechanic noting a loose screw on a panel but deciding it wasn't safety critical. The plane flew fine for months until it was fixed during routine maintenance. Honestly, if we grounded planes for every minor thing, the whole system would grind to a halt. Mechanics have to make calls based on their training, and most of the time it works out.
