Dropped $400 on a fancy torque wrench and my old beam type was just fine
Last spring I got talked into buying one of those digital torque wrenches for $400 because a guy at the hangar said my click type was junk. Used it on maybe six jobs over three months and the battery died on me mid annual on a 172. Had to run to Harbor Freight for a 9 volt just to finish torquing a sump plug. Meanwhile my $60 beam wrench from 2011 has never let me down once. I finally checked the digital one against our shop's calibration rig and it was reading 3 ft lbs off at 80. So I'm out four hundred bucks and back to the beam type like nothing happened. Anyone else get burned by fancy tools that do less than the basic ones?
