Took the stairs at the old Northgate Mall instead of the escalator, and what I found up there was not what I expected

Last month I finally got into the dead Northgate Mall in Chattanooga, and standing at the bottom of that frozen escalator I had to pick between climbing the dead steps or squeezing past the boards blocking the old Sears hall. I picked the stairs, and about halfway up I found a whole untouched food court tray sitting on a planter like somebody just walked off in 2009. Has anyone else taken the stairs over a blocked hallway and found something weird like that?
