The mall Santa throne still had the headset mic attached in 2018
I drove out to the dead Galleria in Dayton back in 2018 with a buddy who wanted photos for his zine. We walked into the center court and there it was, the whole Santa village setup still standing, like they just locked the doors and never came back. The weirdest part was the headset mic on the throne, it still had a little foam cover and a cable running under the carpet. I put it on for a laugh and said 'ho ho ho' into it, and my buddy's camera picked up this faint feedback buzz. We spent an hour checking if any power was live, but no luck. Still, I wonder how many kids sat there thinking Santa could hear them through that thing. Has anyone else found old event stuff just left behind like that?

Tbh, the foam cover detail got me. That thing was probably covered in a decade of kid germs and holiday spit, and you just put it on your face like a champ. I would've done the exact same thing, honestly, then spent the next week convinced I caught mall-flu from a ghost Santa. The feedback buzz is wild though, maybe the spirits of all those forgotten wish lists were trying to come through. Ngl, I once found a half-eaten funnel cake under a fair booth years after the fair left town, and I still think about whoever abandoned it mid-bite.
