Shoutout to the $15 headlamp I bought before exploring the old Fox Run Mall in New Hampshire

I seriously thought my phone flashlight would be enough but that place is pitch black inside past the food court. The headlamp saved me from tripping over a fallen ceiling tile and probably breaking my ankle lol. Has anyone else had a cheap piece of gear unexpectedly save their whole trip?

Grabbed a $10 lantern from walmart right before hiking into an old abandoned quarry tunnel last summer. Thought it was a dumb impulse buy but that thing lit up the whole space while my buddies phones kept dying on them. Ended up being the reason we could actually see all the cool graffiti and old machinery deeper inside. Definitely earned its spot in my emergency bag after that.

Yeah @wells.amy totally changed my mind on cheap gear after that story.

Did you check the battery situation on it before you went in? Ive had those cheap lanterns die fast if the batteries are old. I always take spares, or grab one that runs on AAs since you can find those anywhere. The Walmart ones are actually decent for the price but you gotta test them first.
