Pro tip: calling every empty mall 'abandoned' is just wrong

I see this all the time in photos here. People post shots of a mall with a few closed stores and call it abandoned. That's not right. A truly abandoned mall has zero stores open, no security, and nature coming in. I explored the old Northgate Plaza in my city last fall. That place is abandoned. The roof is caved in over the old food court, and there are trees growing through the floor. It's a totally different feel from a mall that's just dying with a couple of anchor stores left. Getting the label wrong matters because it changes how you explore and the risks you take. Has anyone else been to a place that was fully empty versus one that was just mostly closed?

Yeah, and it also changes the legal trouble you could get into.

My buddy Jake got a $1200 ticket last year for having a modified exhaust. The cop said it was a "public nuisance" violation, which added points to his license. His insurance went up almost forty bucks a month because of it.

Read somewhere that some states are starting to crack down harder on modified exhausts because they're tying it to street racing laws now. Jake got off easy compared to what some guys are facing with impound fees on top of everything else.
