I Thought the Security Guy at the Dead Middletown Mall Was Lying About the Food Court, Then He Walked Me Back There
Everybody in this community says the same thing, that the old Sears wing is always the best spot and food courts are picked clean, and I mostly believed it until two weeks ago. A retired security guy named Dale caught me poking around the fence at the Middletown Mall in Ohio and instead of chasing me off he asked if I wanted to see something. I figured he was messing with me when he said the food court still had the original orange tile and four standing counters untouched since 2009. He walked me through a service hall behind the old CVS and sure enough, the whole court was sealed off with plywood and never gutted, the tile was perfect and there was still a menu board up for a place called Pretzel Palace. I stood there for probably 20 minutes just looking at it, and I was wrong about the whole place being stripped. He said the owner locks it because the roof over that section still holds and he doesn't want to pay to tear it out. Has anyone else had a worker or owner show them a sealed section like that, and did you get pictures or did you leave the camera in your bag like I did?
So when Dale walked you back there did he say why the owner picks that one court to lock up and not the rest, like is it just the roof or is there something else he doesnt want people seeing? And did you ask him if hes taken other people back before or were you the first one he showed it to? Main thing Im stuck on is how the plywood went up without somebody talking, a sealed food court with a menu board still hanging has to be the kind of thing a worker brags about. Did he give you any hint that the place is wired or watched so people dont wander in on their own?
