Just realized I was watching movies wrong for 15 years

I used to only watch what was in theaters or trending on streaming, never digging past the front page. Last year I started a rule: one hidden gem per week from before 1980, and my whole idea of what makes a good film flipped. Has anyone else found that pre-80s stuff you'd never hear about hits harder than modern indie flicks?

Started digging through old public domain horror flicks last winter, and man, the acting is so raw it feels like theyre not even trying to impress you. One night I put on a 1962 low budget thriller called Carnival of Souls, and the whole thing just sat with me for days in a way that slick modern stuff never does. It's not that every old film is a masterpiece, but the weird ones have this honesty that makes the polished big budget stuff feel hollow by comparison.
