A stranger's comment at a craft fair changed my approach to color mixing

I was selling my glass pieces at a local fair last weekend. A lady stopped by and said she loved how the colors blended in a vase. She asked if I planned the mixes or just went with the flow. I told her I usually plan, but her question made me try something new. Back in the studio, I started letting the colors mix more freely. It led to some unexpected and really pretty effects. Now I'm adding more spontaneity to my work. It's amazing how a casual chat can spark creativity.

Actually, that's a cool story but it makes me wonder if planning and going with the flow are really opposites. Sometimes the best "unplanned" effects come from knowing the rules of how colors work together really well first, so your hands just know what to do. It's like your earlier planning built the skill that lets you be spontaneous now without making a mess. So maybe that lady's comment didn't make you try something new, but just trust the skills you already had. Either way, the new pieces sound awesome.

Totally get what you mean about planning and flow not being opposites. It's like seeing someone who's really good at cooking just throw stuff together without a recipe, but they only got there after years of measuring things exactly. The structure has to come first before it turns into a feeling in your hands. Honestly most things we call talent or natural skill are probably just a ton of practice that got baked into someone's brain. Makes me wonder how much of what looks like a mess in life is actually people using old rules in a new way without even thinking about it.
