Stitched a denim jacket with fishing line, totally by accident
I ran out of regular thread at 2 AM working on a vintage Levi’s jacket, so I grabbed my dad’s heavy fishing line from the garage. The stitches came out way tougher and have this cool subtle shine I didn’t expect. Has anyone else used weird materials like this for repairs?

Hey @logan_white59 did the dental floss hold up better than expected too?

Huh, that's actually a pretty clever accident. I've used waxed dental floss before on a pair of heavy-duty work pants when I was in a pinch. It held up surprisingly well, way longer than regular thread would have. Your jacket's gonna outlast everything at this rate.

You know what nobody brings up about dental floss? It's actually waxed, so it repels water way better than regular thread. That's huge for outdoor gear like a jacket, since moisture is what makes seams rot and fall apart over time. I've patched up camping gear with it before, like a tent pole sleeve that kept splitting, and the floss didn't get all mildewy or brittle like cotton thread would. Plus the wax makes it slide through fabric easier, so you don't have to fight with tangles when you're repairing stuff on the go. Your jacket's basically getting anti-water seams now, which is kind of brilliant even if it was an accident.
