Appreciation post: My great-grandfather's 1923 railroad pocket watch

I used to just keep it in a drawer, but after a watchmaker in Cleveland showed me how to gently wind it every eight days, I finally hear the same tick my grandpa did, so what's the best way to document its service history for my kids?

Filming the sound is such a great idea. I did that with my grandma's old mantel clock and just hearing it again brings back so much.

That "same tick my grandpa did" line is so cool. You could film a short video of you winding it, with the sound up close, and just talk about what you know. That way they get the story and the sound.

Totally agree with filming it... that sound is everything. My dad's old field watch from the war has this quiet tick you can only hear up close, and I put a clip of it in a digital photo album with the repair receipts.
