My $20 dollar store heat gun burned me twice before I learned the right nozzle trick
The flat nozzle from a discarded caulk tube focused the air so I didn't scorch the paint off my window trim after I wrecked the first two tries with the wide open setting.

And here I was thinking the real lesson was about paying attention to where your other hand is while you're fiddling with nozzles. Most folks blame the tool before they think about how they're holding the darn thing. Sometimes the trick isn't the attachment, it's just slowing down enough to not get stupid with the heat.

Yeah burned my thumb bad doing exactly that last month trying to rush through a bead.
