PSA: My wax pot almost caught fire - I changed my mind about cheap equipment

I was waxing a client's brows in my home studio in Austin last Tuesday when I smelled something burning... turned out my budget wax pot from Amazon was overheating bad. The plastic base started melting right on my counter. I had always thought expensive equipment was a scam but after that close call I switched to a $120 professional model from Salon Essentials. Has anyone else had a cheap tool nearly cost them their business?

Gonna jump in and say I actually disagree here. I've been using a $35 wax pot from Amazon for three years now without a single issue. You probably just got a defective unit or left it on too high a setting. A lot of pros swear by those cheap pots for a reason, they heat up fast and work fine if you pay attention. Plus spending $120 on something that does the same job feels like a waste when margins are already tight. Did you check the wattage on your old one before blaming the price?

A three year old $35 wax pot sounds like a lucky gamble, not a smart business move. A cheap pot can work until it doesn't, and a near fire is a pretty loud warning sign. Sometimes paying more just buys you basic safety.
