Had a client break down crying after a facial last Thursday

I was doing a basic hydrating facial on a new client in my home studio near Portland. Midway through the extractions she just started sobbing. Turns out her mom used to get facials with her before she passed last year and the smell of the cucumber mask reminded her of it. I didn't know what to say so I just finished the massage in silence. Has anyone else had a session turn into something way more emotional than expected?

Oh man this reminds me of when I was cutting a friend's hair and she randomly started telling me about her divorce in the middle of a bang trim. I had scissors in my hand and was just like "uh huh" trying not to mess up. Did you ever figure out what to say to her after she calmed down?

Three shots of tequila and a blunt "that sounds rough, I'm here for you" actually worked surprisingly well. She ended up thanking me for not making it weird lol.
