Old timer Frank told me to wet the edges of my mud pan to stop ridge buildup, now I feel dumb for fighting dirt for 8 years
I finally tried his trick after watching him do a perfect corner with zero cleanup, and now my pan stays clean for a full bucket instead of me scraping it every 15 minutes - anyone else got a hack they ignored forever that actually works?

Funny how the old guys always have the simple fix that makes you want to kick yourself for not trying it sooner. Next time ask him about using a wet sponge on your straightedge before you pull it, saves you a ton of cleanup later.

Hate to admit how many times I've just dragged a wet sponge along with my straightedge and still ended up with dried mud lines all over the slab. Makes you wonder how many other simple tricks these old timers are sitting on that they just never mention because they assume everyone knows. Probably the same guy who can sharpen a trowel with a rock and a bucket of water.
