Just realized my basement floor drain has a trap primer I've been ignoring for 5 years

Read a random plumbing forum last night and found out those little caps next to drains feed water into the trap to stop sewer gas from coming up, and mine's been bone dry the whole time I've owned this house - anyone else ever miss something this obvious in their own place?

Wait, is that really a bad thing though? Three years means that thing was practically a science experiment, and you got a free lesson in decomposition without even trying. Honestly, that smell is just your basement telling you it finally has a personality. I'd say you saved money on air fresheners and got a story that beats any boring "I cleaned out my fridge" tale.
