My dumb method for cutting baseboards vs. now using a miter box

I used to just eyeball baseboard cuts with a hand saw and pray they fit. Three years ago I tried to install quarter round in my bathroom and ended up with gaps big enough to stick my thumb in. Finally bought a $30 miter box from Home Depot and now my corners actually line up on the first try. Anyone else have a tool that made them feel like they wasted years of frustration?

And it's funny how that applies to everything, not just tools. Once you get the right method or the right piece of gear, you realize how much time you wasted just trying to brute force it.
