200 bucks for something that just connects you to the internet... I mean, I get it if you're out in the middle of nowhere but my phone hotspot has worked fine for me on plenty of road trips. I'd rather save that money for gas or food on the road.

Yeah, "phone hotspot has worked fine" really depends where you're going though. I spent a week in the desert last year and my phone signal dropped to nothing after the first 20 miles of dirt road. I ended up getting one of those satellite messengers and it was a lifesaver when my truck overheated and I had zero bars for three days.
