My coffee shop wifi speed jumped 3x after switching to a local SIM card in Medellin

I went from struggling with spotty cafe wifi to getting 45mbps downloads just by buying a $10 Claro SIM at a corner store. Has anyone else found that local data beats relying on shared networks for remote work?

You're just lucky you didn't get throttled after hitting a data cap like most of us do.

Verizon hit me with a 20GB cap last July and I remember laughing at people complaining about throttling. Figured they were just streaming too much or whatever. Then I hit my cap on day 19 and my connection dropped to basically dial-up speed. Couldn't even load a video without waiting forever. That changed my whole view on data caps real quick. You're not wrong at all, it's a total joke how they advertise unlimited but really push you to pay more.
