Took me 3 years to figure out this injector cup cleaning trick

Was working on a 6.7 Powerstroke the other day in my shop off Route 20 and kept fighting a rough idle after swapping injectors. Turns out I wasn't getting the cups clean enough around the lower o-ring seat... spent 20 minutes with a brass brush and some brake cleaner on a drill and it smoothed right out. Any of you guys run into this on the newer common rails?

Grabbed a wire brush on my die grinder and went to town on the cups with some carb cleaner. Worked way better than scrubbing by hand. Made sure to hit that lower seat area real good before the new injectors went in and the idle was smooth as glass after that.

Read somewhere that some guys will actually use a tiny pick set to clean out those lower seat passages before they hit them with anything. Sounds like overkill but if it smoothed out your idle that much maybe there's something to it. You ever try that or just stick with the wire brush method?
