I used to chase every fuel leak with my eyes before I bought a $22 UV dye kit
For 15 years I crawled around trucks sniffing and squinting trying to find seeps on injection lines and filter housings, and I always missed the slow ones until a puddle showed up in the bay. A guy at the parts counter in Amarillo sold me a UV dye kit with a black light for $22 last spring, and now I add the dye, run the engine 10 minutes, and the leak glows green every single time. Why did nobody tell me about this sooner, and what other cheap tools am I still doing things the hard way without?

The dye kit works great for finding the leak, no argument there, but you still have to fix it right or you'll be back under there in a month. And one thing about that black light, the cheap ones that come in those kits are pretty weak, so if you're chasing a really slow seep on a dirty motor you need to wash the area down first or the glow gets lost in all the grime. Also the dye hangs around in your system for a long time, so if a different leak pops up later you might think it's the old one coming back. I've been bit by that before, spent an hour staring at a spot that turned out to be leftover dye from a job I already fixed. Still a solid $22 though, way better than throwing parts at it and hoping.
