Dropped $340 on a "heavy duty" injection cleaner kit that did nothing for my 6.7
So about two years back I had a 2012 Ram 6.7 that was running rough at idle and I got talked into buying one of those fancy injector cleaner kits off a tool truck. Guy swore up and down it would fix the rough idle and clean everything out for like $340 with the adapters and fluid. I ran it through on a Saturday in my shop here in Amarillo and it did nothing. Rough idle stayed the exact same. What actually fixed it was pulling the injectors and sending them out to get tested, turned out two of them were toast and I was chasing the wrong problem the whole time. That $340 could have gone toward one of the rebuilt injectors. Lesson I keep relearning is don't throw parts and chemicals at a symptom before you actually diagnose it. Wondering if any of you have had luck with those cleaner kits or if it's just snake oil for common rail stuff.
Wait, you paid $340 for a kit that just squirts mystery fluid into your fuel rail? That's like paying a fortune teller to diagnose your truck. Those tool truck guys could sell sand to a camel I swear. Good on you for actually pulling the injectors and finding out the real problem, most guys would just keep dumping money into additives hoping for a miracle. Common rail injectors are way too precise for some cleaner to magically fix worn out internals, once they're toast they're toast.
