Picked up a busted 3rd gen iPod for $15 and brought it back with a CF card swap

Saw someone on Facebook Marketplace selling a 30gb iPod classic with a clicking hard drive for like $15. Figured what the heck, bought it and ordered a compact flash adapter off Amazon for $12. Took maybe 20 minutes to crack it open with a spudger and swap the drive out. Now it boots up in about 3 seconds instead of waiting forever for that old spinning disk. Battery life went from maybe 30 minutes to around 6 hours after the swap too. Anyone know if the solid state drives work any better than the CF cards for these old iPods?

Did the CF card fix the skipping issues when you jostle it while walking?
