Question about how I map dead malls now vs in 2019
Back in 2019 I used to print out old mall floor plans from a library archive in Toledo and walk the halls with a paper map and a highlighter, marking every store that still had a sign up. Now I just pull up Google Street View from 2008 and 2016 side by side on my phone while I'm standing in the food court, and I can spot which anchor stores got boarded up between those years without moving my feet. The problem is I miss stuff that way, like the time I walked past a whole lower level at Northgate in Ohio because it looked empty on the app but had a working fountain still running. Anybody else feel like the old paper method caught more weird details, or is that just me being stubborn about my binder full of 40 mall maps?
