Hot take: I used to think malls died from online shopping, then a guy in the food court line at the Chesterfield Mall changed my mind
He worked at the Sears there for 22 years and told me the store was still hitting its numbers in 2009, the year before the owner sold the whole property to a developer who let it rot on purpose. Now I look at who owns the land before I blame Amazon. Has anyone else found a paper trail like that on a dead mall?

Same story everywhere: land value beats store sales.
