The day my 2003 flip phone outlasted my brand new smartphone on a hiking trip

Two weekends ago I drove up to Shenandoah with a group and my "new" phone died by 2pm. Battery drained from taking photos and using maps. But I also threw my old LG VX6100 in my bag out of habit, you know, as backup. That thing held a charge for 3 days, and I used it to text my husband from the summit when everyone else was holding dead bricks to the sky. I just had to type with my thumbs again, which took me back. Did anyone else keep their old phone as a backup and end up relying on it way more than expected?
