My GPS died in rural Vermont, now I read paper maps like my grandpa

I used to just punch an address into my phone and blindly follow the voice until last June when it sent me down a logging road that ended at a beaver pond, so now I keep a folded state map in the glovebox and plan routes by looking for the thick red lines first, and honestly, has anyone else switched back to paper and found it way less stressful?

Are you using the Delorme atlas or the state highway map? I had the same thing happen to me in the Adirondacks, phone took me down this sketchy gravel road that just dead ended at a washed out bridge. I switched to the atlas and now I look for the little dotted lines that mean dirt roads, and I highlight my route with a yellow marker the night before. It's weirdly calming too, like I actually know where I'm going instead of just trusting a robot voice. Plus, when you stop for coffee you can spread it out on the hood and show the person where you're headed, it feels more like a real trip.

Hold on, the Delorme doesn't show dirt roads with dotted lines, those are just unmarked trails or old logging roads... you gotta use the Gazetteer and look for the dashed red lines for that. Still, I get what you mean about the yellow marker thing, that part's solid.
