Walked into a library in Dayton and saw a librarian typing on a keyboard she built herself
I was killing time at the main library in Dayton last month while my car got new tires, and the woman at the front desk had this wild split keyboard with two halves and blank keycaps. I asked about it and she said she built it herself for about $180, soldered every switch, and lubed them over a weekend. She said the blank caps stopped her from looking down, and her typing speed went from 55 words a minute to 78. Then she pulled a little case out of her bag with three more keyboards in it like they were library books. I stood there way too long and now I want to build one, but I have never touched a soldering iron in my life. Do I start with a cheap kit or just buy a hot swap board first?
