Tuning stabilizers used to take an hour, now it's a 15 minute job

I used to obsess over band-aid mods and clipping every little prong on my stabs, and they still sounded rattly. Then a friend at the Portland meetup showed me how much of the noise actually comes from the wire ends sliding against the housing. Now I just grease the wire contact points with dielectric grease and tune the balance by bending the wire with tweezers. It took a few tries to get the right amount of grease, too much and they feel mushy, too little and the rattle comes back. Honestly, I think most of the fancy mods people do are just covering up bad wire seating. Has anyone else had luck skipping the clipping step entirely and focusing only on the wire?
