My neighbor watched me lube 6 switches and asked why I was wasting a Saturday, then asked to try my board
Honestly I was sitting on my front porch in Hendersonville two Saturdays ago with a little jar of 205g0 and a brush, working through a batch of linears for a build I keep putting off. My neighbor Dale came over to return my ladder and just stood there watching me for a good minute before asking why I was wasting a whole afternoon on tiny plastic parts. I started to get a little defensive, but then he said something that stuck with me, he goes "so it's like tuning a guitar, you're not fixing it, you're just making it yours." I'd never thought about it that way. I handed him the board I'd finished the week before and he typed on it for like 90 seconds and got this look on his face. He asked what made it feel different and I explained the spring weight and the lube and the plate, and he just nodded and said he gets it now. That got me wondering if the explaining is half the hobby for the rest of you, or if you all just build in silence and let people figure it out on their own.
